In What Order Shall I Take Courses?

To be successful, take the right course.
All courses in the same level can be taken in any order.
Prerequisites are also below.

Level One
Essentials 1, Essentials 1 SloMo

Level Two
Essentials 2, Ocean 101, Beginning Snorkeling, Next Step Snorkeling (follows Beginning Snorkeling)

Level Three
Deep Water Play, Ocean 202, Jump Off the Boat, Swim with Dolphins, SCUBA

Level Four
Freestyle & Turns, 2 Strokes (Breaststroke and Butterfly or Backstroke)

Prerequisites

Essentials 1 and Essentials 1 SloMo; to be eligible for these courses, you must have fear in water

Essentials 2: to be eligible for the Essentials 2 course, you have completed the Essentials 1 or Essentials 1 SloMo course. You can float and unfloat on front and back; you can do reversals and roll from front to back and back to front and move from here to there in the pool. You demonstrate that you know The 5 Circles.

Deep Water Play: to be eligible for Deep Water Play, you can rest and bob and swim around the deep end peacefully for at least 10 minutes away from the wall. You don’t rely on the wall at all.

Ocean 101: to be eligible, you have completed the Essentials 1 or Essentials 1 SloMo course.

Jump Off the Boat: to be eligible, you have completed at least Essentials 2.
Ocean 101 is recommended but not required.

Advanced Courses
Some classes listed in Course Levels are not on our schedule. At this time, we are focussing on our core offerings of Pool and Open Water Competencies. When there are enough requests for an advanced course, we will put it on our schedule. Make your request here. We’re working on a viewable list so you can see how many have requested the course you’re interested in.

Freestyle and other strokes’ prerequisites: know the water! The better you know the water (best served by Deep Water Play) the more likely it is that you will learn the stroke(s) in the 7 days of a course. If a freestyle or strokes course is in deep water, do not take it until you are eligible to take Deep Water Play. If it’s in shallow water, Essentials 2 is the minimum prerequisite (you may not have mastered the E2 skills but you may still take freestyle).
