Essentials 2 was formerly called “Next Step.”
Graduates of our Essentials 1 course return to finish learning the essentials of being safe in deep water. They are ready for Essentials 2 if they can do the following in shallow water when they arrive for Essentials 2:
◈ focus on staying in the 1st Circle
Become calm in water over your head.
Be able to rest and remain at ease floating, bobbing, and rolling over anywhere in deep water without getting tired for 10 – 15 minutes.
Go at your own pace and learn as much as 24 hours allows.
Same format as the Essentials 1 course: 8 three-hour sessions. 1 hour on land, 2 hours in the pool.
In the deep end when you’re ready, you’ll pave the way to new confidence on one of our float bars as pictured. You are connected securely to the bar with a tether so you don’t need to wait for a spotter. It’s fun!
With the safety of the tether you learn that deep water does hold you up and you can be yourself, in control.
◈ Feeling safe all the time
◈ Being inspired by others to try things you’ve wanted to do
◈ Wanting to take risks because you feel safe
◈ Becoming still in deep water…or more still
◈ Reaching new swimming goals
◈ Overtaking fear to become yourself in deep water
The price of this course has risen because our instructor flies into Sarasota to teach and stays in a hotel. We’re splitting the difference with you if we have at least 6 students in the course. We apologize for this change. Some course locations offer 2 bedroom 2 bath condos, shareable by classmates. Tell us if you’re interested and we’ll try to pair you with another student.
For 2024 If you have questions or need help with the link, please do not hesitate to call Residence Inn, 941-343-8502. | ||||

Many people think that because they are comfortable in shallow water, they’re ready to learn to be comfortable in the deep. But the reason they are comfortable in shallow water is because they rely on the bottom or the side of the pool for your safety.
True or true?
By coming to our classes, you’re saying you want to rely on yourself for your safety, not on the bottom or the side. You must not expect yourself to learn in a place where you don’t feel safe. If the bottom and side are not available to you, how are you going to feel safe?
You’ll learn to feel safe in a new way and at a new level in Essentials 1. Then you’ll be ready for Essentials 2.
If you know more than others in class, you will not be held back. There are things you may think you know that you could know more deeply.
