Essentials 2 was formerly called “Next Step.”
Graduates of our Essentials 1 course return to finish learning the essentials of being calm and safe in deep water. They are ready for Essentials 2 if they can do the following when they arrive:
Become calm in water over your head.
Be able to rest and roll around anywhere in deep water without getting tired for 10 – 15 minutes.
Go at your own pace and learn as much as 24 hours allows.
Same format as the Essentials 1 course: 8 three-hour sessions. 1 hour on land, 2 hours in the pool.
In the deep end when you’re ready, you’ll learn your new confidence on one of our float bars as pictured. You are connected securely to the bar with a tether so you don’t need to wait for a spotter. It’s fun! It keeps you socially distant from the instructor and other students.
The students in the photo outgrew the tether.
In Person: Start where you are today and skip no steps. This course is all the dry-land sessions and as you become ready, the deep water skills you need, including essential skills not taught elsewhere. Rely on yourself for your safety, rather than the bottom or the side. Each student will learn a portion of his/her confidence at our new Float Bars, as pictured (one per student). You are connected securely to the bar so you don’t need a spotter. These allow social distancing, yet allow you to learn the early skills comfortably.

The price of this course has risen because our instructor flies into Sarasota to teach and she must stay at the resort where class is held. We’re splitting the difference with you if we have at least 5 students in the course. We apologize for this change. There has been an average 43% increase in accommodations in Sarasota in 2022.
