Who Takes Deep Water Play?

After you can rest for 10 to 15 minutes peacefully in water over your head, you may want to become nimble in the water.

To be eligible, you must be peaceful in the middle of deep water in a pool for at least 5 minutes and a graduate of our Beginning course. Most likely you’ll also be a graduate of the Next Step course.

In terms of safety, this third course in our series of Core Courses, completes our series to achieve Pool Competency.

What Is the Course?

When you’ve mastered your safety in the deep end of the pool and you can “hang out” there as long as you want, there’s one more level of competency to win: proficiency.

Gain control of doing exactly what you want, when you want to do it. Learn to use the water and your body to pick up the keys you dropped in the deep, find a nose clip, play games, swim along the bottom, do stunts. Go up, down, forward and backward at will. This includes mastering your air. The combination of this course plus Jump Off the Boat produced a class of graduates who can tread water for half an hour in the ocean: they had gotten to know the water and most were free.

Where and How?

Sarasota, Florida
15 hours/3.5 days
$850

Thursday 3 p.m. to Sunday 11 a.m.

September 10-13, 2020
This course will be taught outdoors with social distancing mindfully observed. The dry-land portion will most likely be conducted online from your hotel room. The hotel has taken these safety measures: guests pick up new linens at front desk. Housekeeping does not come into the rooms during your stay. There is a 3-night period of no-new-guests in each room after it has been used. Masks are required in common spaces but not at the pool. We encourage you to mask until you get into the water. Your instructor will wear a mask. The course will be taught so that students do not need a spotter. This will be one of the silver linings of Covid19. The hotel is on the beach.
